Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Gwendolyn or "Gwen" is fine.

I received my graduate degree and licensure from Rider University in community counseling. I have almost two decades of experience in individual, couples, family and group therapy. My specialties include domestic violence, sexual violence, bereavement and other traumas. I am New Jersey State certified in domestic violence and sexual violence. I'm not exclusive to treating trauma since most of my clients are coming in with different issues. Most of my clients are just dealing with life issues. I welcome all diverse clients. I find that I learn most from my clients.

My approach to therapy

All clients are different, so I find it important to customize my approach, in terms of theory and techniques, that cater specifically to the client. I like to use techniques, based off sound research, that are highly reliable and valid. I consider myself to be creative and step outside the box so that my clients receive a quality counseling experience. I like to cater to the client by offering different options they can choose. Ultimately, the client decides what they are looking for when it comes to the type of therapy and techniques used. I can offer talk therapy or structured therapy with homework assignments. The client has the autonomy to decide what they want to share in the sessions as well. My hope is to get clients back to optimal functioning.

What you can expect from me

During the first couple sessions I like to focus on the therapeutic relationship and really get to know the client. After this stage, I like to focus on goals, with objectives, so that we can keep the focus on what brought the client into therapy. I like to introduce different therapies, techniques and psychoeducation as a rationale for what will be used.

I invite my clients to be open and honest with how they are feeling about our sessions. I have no issues with making any necessary changes. I'm very flexible.
