Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Hannah Short, LCSW, founder of Rooted & Nourished Psychotherapy. I’m a licensed clinical social worker based in Texas, and my work is centered around helping women heal their relationship with food, their bodies, and themselves.

I specialize in eating disorder recovery, body image concerns, perinatal and postpartum support, and bariatric surgery mental health support. I am also EMDR trained.

My approach is deeply compassionate, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that you are not “broken”—you’re navigating patterns that once helped you survive. Together, we slow down, get curious, and build a kinder, more connected relationship with your body and your mind.

I draw from ACT, somatic approaches, CBT/DBT skills, and attachment-based therapy, weaving in your story, your strengths, and your real-life context.

Before private practice, I worked extensively with adults navigating trauma, chronic dieting, postpartum transitions, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and the emotional toll of navigating healthcare systems. My clinical training includes a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California postgraduate work in trauma and eating disorders, and ongoing advanced training in perinatal mental health and bariatric counseling.

Whether you're stepping into therapy for the first time or returning after a long break, my goal is simple: to create a safe space where you feel seen, supported, and understood. You don’t have to walk through this alone—healing starts with one small step, and I’m here to help you take it.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that real healing happens when you finally feel safe enough to slow down, be honest, and breathe again. I’m not a “nod and take notes” therapist. I’m engaged, down-to-earth, and here to help you understand what’s happening inside your mind and body so you can actually create change—not just talk about it.

What you can expect from me

How We’ll Work Together

1. We start with understanding. Before anything else, I get curious about your lived experiences, your nervous system, and the patterns you’ve had to develop just to get through life. There’s no judgment—just compassion and clarity.

2. We move at your pace, not a textbook’s. Some sessions feel deep and emotional; others feel practical and grounded. Both matter. You never have to perform, be perfect, or have everything figured out.

3. We weave together evidence-based approaches. My work draws from:

  • IFS/parts work (understanding the protective roles inside you)
  • Somatic and nervous system regulation
  • CBT and DBT skills
  • Attachment-focused therapy
  • Psychoeducation that actually makes sense in real life
  • Trauma-informed care woven throughout For clients seeking deeper breakthroughs

4. We build skills you can actually use. I help you learn how to respond to your emotions, relate to food and your body with more kindness, and navigate stressful seasons without collapsing into old patterns.

5. We make the process feel human. I bring warmth, humor, and realness into the room. You don’t have to be the “strong one,” the perfectionist, or the fixer. You can come exactly as you are.
