Great to meet you!

Hello! I am Dr. Hansong Zhang, currently a licensed clinical psychologist in Texas and a professor of psychology at Texas Woman’s University. For many years in the field, the combined experience of counseling, teaching, and psychological research shaped my inquisitive, compassionate, and evidence-based therapeutic style. I specialize in treating adults and working professionals in regard to depression, anxiety, stress coping, relationship conflict, spiritual/religious and existential concerns.

My approach to therapy

When analyzing the mental and emotional process of clients, I adopt a pragmatic and time-limited psychodynamic approach, which is a comprehensive philosophy/style that combines developmental, interpersonal, object relations, and self psychology. In my opinion, counseling is a medium for clients to establish new insight and achieve new experiences. In this process, new understandings and new experiences are often complementary and reinforce each other.

What you can expect from me

You can expect to gain new understanding about yourself and the world, and develop more effective coping strategies that help you achieve meaningful and fulfilling experiences. Your mental and emotional burden will be gradually lifted as we work through your inner barriers. My therapy environment is welcoming, empowering and adequately challenging, so you are able to gently push yourself to discover the inner strength, grit, and purpose that was always there.
