Great to meet you!

Welcome! I’m Haruna Maliani, a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). My passion for mental healthcare is rooted in a deep respect for human resilience and a belief that everyone deserves compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to their unique journey.

With an extensive background in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings, I specialize in diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of mental health conditions—including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD/trauma, and stress management. I work primarily with adults and young adults from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

I view mental wellness through a holistic lens: your biology, lifestyle, relationships, and environment all play a role in your overall well-being. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel truly heard and empowered to take an active role in your healing process.

My approach to therapy

My care philosophy is built on collaboration, empathy, and evidence-based practice. I believe that effective psychiatric care is never "one-size-fits-all."

  • Collaborative Decision-Making: We work as a team. I provide clinical insights and options, but we decide on treatment goals and care plans together.
  • Integrative Treatment: While medication management is a core part of my practice, I combine pharmacotherapy with supportive therapy, mindfulness techniques, and lifestyle medicine (sleep hygiene, nutrition, stress reduction) to support long-term wellness.
  • Thoughtful Prescribing: If medication is recommended, I prioritize the lowest effective dose to achieve optimal symptoms relief while minimizing side effects. I will always explain the why behind any medication we discuss.

What you can expect from me

Your initial session is designed to be a thorough, comfortable, and unhurried experience. Here is what you can expect:

  • In-Depth Assessment: We’ll explore your current symptoms, medical history, past mental health treatments, lifestyle, and personal goals.
  • Open Dialogue: You’ll have ample time to share your story and ask any questions about your diagnosis or care options.
  • A Personalized Roadmap: By the end of our time together, we will outline a tailored treatment plan—whether that involves starting medication, adjusting an existing regimen, implementing lifestyle changes, or referring you to complementary therapy.

You can expect to leave your first visit with clarity, reassurance, and a concrete path forward.
