Great to meet you!

It's important to me know that you know that you are cared for throughout this entire process.Hi, I’m Heather Cochran, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I’m passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges, improve their emotional well-being, and build the skills they need to feel more confident and fulfilled. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes.

I work with a diverse population, including new mothers, women, young adults, and college students who may be navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, identity development, academic stress, or the pressures of balancing personal and professional responsibilities. I understand that different stages of life bring unique challenges, and I enjoy helping clients find balance, build resilience, and feel more confident in themselves.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is compassionate, collaborative, and strengths-based. I use evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral techniques (TF-CBT), to help clients develop greater self-awareness, build confidence, strengthen coping skills, and create meaningful change. I tailor therapy to each client's unique experiences, needs, strengths, and goals, recognizing that healing is a personal process.

During sessions, I use CBT to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge negative beliefs, explore emotional triggers, and develop practical coping strategies to manage stress and navigate everyday challenges. I also incorporate trauma-focused cognitive behavioral techniques (TF-CBT) to help clients understand how past experiences may affect their current emotions, relationships, behaviors, and beliefs about themselves.

My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. Through collaboration and individualized care, I help clients recognize their strengths, develop effective tools for managing life's challenges, and work toward lasting emotional well-being through ( TF-CBT) and (CBT).

What you can expect from me

During our first session, you can expect a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where we begin getting to know one another. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, personal history, strengths, and goals for treatment. I will ask questions to better understand your emotional well-being, relationships, daily stressors, and any experiences that may be affecting your quality of life. Or format is to build rapport and establish treatment goals.

The initial session includes an assessment of your needs, symptoms, and current functioning so we can develop a treatment approach that is personalized to you. When appropriate, we may also discuss safety concerns, assess risk, and develop a safety plan together to help you identify warning signs, coping strategies, supportive people, and resources you can access during difficult moments.

My goal is to help you feel comfortable, respected, and involved in the therapeutic process. You are encouraged to ask questions, share at your own pace, and let me know what would help you feel safe and supported. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first session. We will work together to identify your priorities and establish a foundation for meaningful progress.
