Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Heather McLellan, LICSW. I am a licensed clinical social worker with more than 20 years of experience supporting individuals through a wide range of mental health challenges. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Alabama in 2001 and completed my master’s in clinical social work there in 2005.

Over the course of my career, I’ve worked in community mental health, addiction recovery, court‐ordered treatment programs, and within the mental health service line of the Department of Veterans Affairs. My clinical experience includes helping individuals navigate depression, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, addiction, and many other mental health concerns.

My approach to therapy

I provide a steady, compassionate, and evidence‐informed space where clients can feel supported, understood, and empowered. In my practice, I meet people where they are and walk alongside them as they work toward meaningful change. I’m experienced in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, and substance use disorders. I draw from approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, motivational enhancement therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and whole‐health wellness practices.

I don’t believe in a “one‐size‐fits‐all” model of therapy. Each person brings their own story, strengths, and needs, and I tailor treatment to reflect that. My work is grounded in whole‐health principles, recognizing that emotional well‐being is interconnected with physical, social, and spiritual health. Together, we explore the patterns shaping your life, build practical tools, and reconnect with your strengths so you can move forward with clarity, resilience, and confidence.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a supportive, comfortable therapeutic relationship. I’ll invite you to share what brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to change or understand, and any questions or concerns you may have. Together, we’ll start identifying your goals and discuss what approaches might be most helpful for you.

My aim is to create a calm, welcoming space where you feel heard, respected, and at ease. You can expect a steady, compassionate presence and a collaborative approach. By the end of our first session, you should have a clearer sense of the direction we’ll take, the tools we might use, and how we’ll work together to support your well‐being.
