Great to meet you!

Hi! I’m Heather Melton, a licensed therapist with a passion for helping individuals and families navigate the challenges that keep them feeling stuck. I specialize in working with clients who are seeking healing, growth, and more fulfilling relationships—whether that’s with themselves, their children, or others around them.

I earned my Social Work degree from DePaul University in 2008 with a concentration in Community Practice. Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of roles including mental health therapy, medical social work, case management, prevention services, and substance use coalitions. My professional experience is supported by lived experience and a deep understanding of adversity, which fuels my drive to support others through their own journeys.

I provide therapy for adults, children, and families dealing with trauma/PTSD, abuse recovery, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, self-esteem issues, life transitions, parenting struggles, and school or career concerns. I also have a strong interest in working with parents and caregivers who want to build stronger connections with their children, especially those navigating attention or behavioral concerns.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to your individual needs. I believe that therapy should feel like a safe space to explore both your struggles and your strengths. I often incorporate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, person-centered techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma processing.

Whether you’re working through difficult emotions, trying to heal from past trauma, or simply wanting to grow in self-confidence and clarity, I strive to meet you where you are with empathy and respect. I view therapy as a partnership and work alongside my clients to help them build the insight and skills needed to create meaningful, lasting change.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect to leave sessions with practical tools, greater self-awareness, and a clearer sense of direction. Many of the people I work with experience relief from distressing symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks, and anxiety. Others grow more confident in setting boundaries, expressing themselves, and making empowered decisions.

If you’re a parent, you can expect guidance on how to better understand and support your child while also feeling more confident in your own role. If you’re an individual navigating life transitions or working through past pain, you’ll find a nonjudgmental space where your goals and values are honored.

Ultimately, my hope is that you leave our work together feeling more grounded, hopeful, and equipped for the path ahead.
