The first therapy session is like driving your car into the shop for an estimate. You might tell the mechanic you hear a funny noise; The mechanic will assess to accurately diagnose the issue, provide you with an estimate of what can be done to address the issue, and you decide if you trust the mechanic - personally, to leave your vehicle in their care, and professionally, to have the expertise and skills to resolve the issues.
This is what therapy will be like. We start by building rapport in a safe, confidential space, where you can tell me what is bringing you to therapy, and I can assess. I will provide feedback, psycho-educational information on the therapeutic frameworks that I specialize in, and techniques that I feel might be helpful. We will collaborate on creating a treatment plan, identifying your symptoms, goals, and evidence-based treatments we can practice in therapy sessions, and for homework to support your progress outside of therapy sessions.
