Great to meet you!

My name is Hunter Downs, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Quiet Mind Counseling, a virtual-only practice dedicated to helping clients find inner peace and clarity. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Duquesne University, providing me with a strong foundation in therapeutic practice. My background includes working with diverse populations, with a focus on helping adolescents and young adults along with incarcerated individuals to develop skills in emotional regulation and communication, and working in private practice for several years addressing a wide range of concerns. My clinical approach is rooted in evidence-based methods, and I specialize in integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based interventions. Ultimately, my goal is to collaborate with you to build a practical set of skills that empower you to live a more balanced and authentic life.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is built on the philosophy that a quiet mind is the foundation for a peaceful and resilient life. I work collaboratively with each client, providing a safe and non-judgmental space to explore thoughts and feelings without the pressure of external noise. My framework is rooted in evidence-based practices, and I specialize in integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based interventions. I utilize these methods to help you gain new insights, develop effective coping skills, and learn to regulate your emotions in a healthy way. I can work with and address any concerns that you may have, but have extensive experience in areas such as ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Grief & Loss, LGBTQIA+, Life Transitions, Relationship Issues and Trauma. Together, we will build a practical set of tools that empower you to navigate life's challenges with confidence and a greater sense of well-being.

What you can expect from me

The first session at Quiet Mind Counseling is a warm and non-judgmental space created for you to feel heard and at ease. The primary goal of our initial meeting is to get to know one another, for you to share your story, and for me to understand what brings you to counseling. I will listen with empathy and compassion, focusing on your unique experiences and what you hope to achieve through our work together. By the end of the session, we will have a clearer picture of your goals and a shared understanding of how we can best begin your therapeutic journey. You can expect to leave feeling understood and with a sense of hope about the path forward.
