Great to meet you!

Hello! I am glad you are here. I am an Independent Licensed Social Worker who got a clinical MSW from the University of St. Thomas. Over the last 7 years of providing therapy I have refined my approach to address four different areas of life, since we are integrated human beings. Those areas are: Biological, emotional, environmental, and psychological (the study of the soul).

I have been practicing as a therapist since 2019. I have worked with all walks of life from toddlers to those who are more advanced in years. I have worked with families with difficult children, or difficult circumstances, like a traumatic experience, they didn't ask for. I have been working the last 7 years in an area with a lot of systemic trauma caused by substance abuse and mental illness. Before that I worked as a case manager at a homeless shelter. I have become used to complex cases. I can comfortably say my approach has been successful in getting clients through difficult times and to a place of increased resilience, a reduction in symptoms associated with anxiety and depression.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is eclectic. I pull from different theoretical approaches depending on what the situation calls for. Even though I am a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy fan, I recognize how unidentified and unprocessed emotions can be the root of many ills. A large percentage of my clients can't identify their feelings. That then it gets expressed as depression or anger when they don't want to be. We go into the process of identifying feelings by giving them a name and where they are in the body. Thinking through our feelings is also important. Our feelings give important information about our beliefs and values which then provides my clients with new found strength and permission to set boundaries and show up in a more healthy way for others. Former schemas from childhood hamper us in how we function as adults. We explore that and examine what is and is not serving you now as an adult. EMDR can be used to heal negative beliefs about yourself and your place in the world. I use EMDR to help heal traumatic experiences after we go through some coping strategies and resources to help you cope with overwhelming emotions that might occur with memories or triggers.

I look at most issues through an attachment perspective. A lot of healing work is done by looking at our unmet attachment needs causing negative beliefs about ourselves and the place in the world and in relationship to others. Some are theorizing it is also why we have such a high rate of ADHD cases. I do work with those diagnosed and undiagnosed with ADHD. I have worked with a lot of Post Traumatic Stress disorder cases by using EMDR. I use Gottman and Sue John's EFT for couples. I am always learning and trying to find new ways to help clients find relief from what they are struggling with.

What you can expect from me

My clients walk away from their session saying, "I feel better." Clients can expect to walk away with something to think about or to continue to process. One client stated his therapy with me has been effective. Another told his partner he it seemed to him like I really cared about their problems. Another referred her friend, telling her that if she wants to go deep, then I was the one she ought to see.

I am strong in the area of psychoeducation. For instance, learning perspective taking or communication skills helps one function in relationships better. Over all, being able to tell one's story and process it is a big part of the healing process. I look forward to meeting and listening to your story.
