I've been working with clients in New York for over 30 years after completing psychoanalytic training. My decades of experience enable me to grasp and appreciate the complexity of the people I work with as I guide them to achieve lasting change. I feel fortunate that I've been able to engage in such an emotionally rewarding profession in which deep human connections are pursued and valued. I work within a psychodynamic framework, which focuses on understanding the connection between developmental experiences and traumas, and the current problems. that bring people into therapy. I foster curiosity, authenticity, and openness to change as the necessary ingredients for a successful treatment. The work is often difficult, and requires a high degree of dedication from both sides, but the rewards are worth the effort.
I hope my patients leave sessions feeling supported, understood, and curious about themselves. Of course not all sessions are like that. Often patients can feel stuck, or even lost, but that's not necessarily a bad thing; just a part of the process. Some sessions may end with the patient having more questions than answers. That, too, may be a good sign. Progress in therapy is not linear; it's often a jagged line!
