Irina Abinya

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY state. I graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, with EdM and MA degrees in Psychological Counseling. I am also a Diplomate in Logotherapy through the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy (USA) and an accredited member of the International Association of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis at the Viktor Frankl Institute in Vienna, Austria. I get inspired by travel, nature, culture, photography, and a continuous search for meaning.

I have extensive experience providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of diagnoses, including PTSD and trauma-related disorders, affective disorders, personality disorders, and addiction. I utilize trauma-focused, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic-existential, and meaning-centered approaches in my clinical practice. I believe that the therapeutic process should be analytical, insight-oriented, change-oriented, and solution-focused in order for it to be productive and effective.

I believe that a warm, genuine, and collaborative therapeutic relationship that is based on trust and respect facilitates psychological healing, growth, and well-being. I create a safe and supportive environment for my clients and I equip them with valuable psychoeducation, insight, as well as effective coping and self-care skills. I incorporate cultural sensitivity into my work to accommodate and respect differences in beliefs, opinions, values, and attitudes of various cultures and traditions, and to honor the diversity of ethnicity, race, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation and identity, and socioeconomic status.
