Great to meet you!

Hi, my name is Jack Chamberlin. I specialize in working with issues involved with aging; trauma-related disorders, such as PTSD, and depression/anxiety. Welcome to my practice.

I'm a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). My approach to therapy is humanitarian and evidence based, and I like to focus on the cognitive foundations of self-understanding. I hold a B.A. degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work. I've been a clinical social worker for the entire 30 years of my career in helping others. Over the years, I've worked with a very diverse population of clients, from prison inmates to folks just like you.

I am a U.S. Navy veteran myself and I served in the Vietnam war. Over the years, I've worked with a diverse population of clients, from prison inmates to paroled sex-offenders, to individuals in hospice and hospital palliative care.

My approach to therapy

The foundation of effective psychotherapy is an abiding mutual trust between the therapist and the client. The super-structure of that trust must be a mutual respect buried in humanitarian principles regardless of identified differences. I make reaching and sustaining this sacred place with my clients the sustaining goal of therapy. I choose to utilize only therapeutic approaches that have proven to be effective through peer-reviewed research.

Although I have been trained in "old school" psychotherapeutic approaches such as psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy, my commitment to evidence-based practice has drawn me to cognitive-based, behavioral approaches. In layman's terms, talking about how you think about your life, including your self-image, and your relationships has replaced talking about how you feel about your mother.

What you can expect from me

The vast majority of my clients over the years that I've treated are suffering from sedentary, stalled lives mired in fear and the trepidation of change. A "happy" and fulfilling life must be actively moving forward toward short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals, ideally within the context of a sustaining, creative paradigm. Let's talk about your fears!
