Great to meet you!

My name is Jackson and I am a transgender man working as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Connecticut. I specialize in working with the LGBT+ community and those with complex trauma. Other topics relevant to my experience include crisis/suicidality, HIV, homelessness, substance use/addiction, harm reduction, and neurodivergence.

I also offer consultation sessions for mental health letters of support for gender affirming care (hormone therapy, surgery, hair removal, etc). I use WPATH standards of care to assess your situation and will provide a letter of support and/or help you to create a plan for further support if we identify any concerns. Keep in mind different doctors/insurances/states have differing laws regarding these letters and I may need to do research prior to writing your letter to ensure we do so correctly.

My approach to therapy

I do my best to tailor my approach to the needs of each individual client. Some of the methods I use include EMDR, DBT, narrative therapy, somatic therapy, humanistic therapy, and ACT. If those terms do not make much sense right now, don't worry! I also believe that therapy should be made accessible by using non-clinical language and I will happily explain each of these approaches in whatever terms make the most sense to each client. For those who have extensive histories of therapy already, I like to discuss what methods you have already tried so that I make sure to utilize our time effectively with skills that you know you respond well to (and to avoid methods you have had poor/no results from).

What you can expect from me

I build my treatment plans together with each client to ensure that you feel we are taking the best approach for your individual needs. I value honest feedback and work to gain mutual trust and respect with my clients. We will set goals that feel achievable and I will help you create a plan to make them happen. The work done in your therapy sessions will be led by you, but I'm also not the type of therapist to sit and listen silently for the entire hour - I will work to create a healthy balance of empathetic listening and engaging with you to ask questions, provide feedback, and help you make informed decisions about your own mental health.
