Great to meet you!

I’m Jacob Brooks, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 21 years of healthcare experience. My background includes 15 years of military service as a combat and flight medic, experience in a Level I trauma center, and nine years as an emergency department nurse with the Department of Veterans Affairs. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington and my Master of Science in Nursing from Texas State University, graduating magna cum laude from both. I provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children ages 5 and older, adolescents, and adults, with experience treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and insomnia.

My approach to therapy

I believe effective mental health care begins with listening, building trust, and understanding the whole person rather than simply treating a diagnosis. My approach is collaborative, individualized, and evidence-based, with treatment plans developed around each client's symptoms, needs, preferences, and goals. When medication is appropriate, I focus on targeting specific symptoms while using the lowest effective dose when appropriate and carefully balancing effectiveness, tolerability, and individual treatment goals. I strive to be direct, compassionate, and down-to-earth while ensuring clients understand what they are taking, how it works, and why it is part of their treatment plan.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, judgment-free environment where they have an opportunity to share their concerns, experiences, and goals at their own pace. I take a thorough approach to understanding your mental health history, current symptoms, medications, medical background, and how these concerns are affecting your daily life. Together, we will discuss treatment options and develop an individualized plan based on evidence, your needs, and your preferences. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, informed, and confident about the next steps in your care.
