Great to meet you!

I am Jalyn McDermott, LICSW. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults across school, correctional, and community settings. My background includes providing behavior support services, intensive in-home services, crisis intervention, and parenting education. I am committed to creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and client-centered, meaning I tailor treatment to your unique needs, strengths, and goals. I integrate evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Play Therapy, and Trauma Systems Therapy. Together, we work to identify and address the root causes of challenges such as depression, anxiety, anger, family conflict, relationship concerns (including communication, boundaries, trust, and attachment) and teen-related concerns, while developing practical coping and emotional regulation skills.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, you can expect a welcoming and supportive conversation focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We will discuss concerns, goals, background information, and any immediate needs. I will explain the therapy process, answer any questions, and work with you to begin developing a plan that feels comfortable and meaningful. Our first session is about building trust, establishing safety, and setting the foundation for our work together.
