Great to meet you!

Jamal D. Gipson, MS, BTh, LPC | LAC | CCS | AADC | SAP-DOT

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor with advanced training in substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. I specialize in helping individuals overcome addiction, manage mental health challenges, and rebuild stable, purpose-driven lives.

My professional background includes extensive experience working with individuals facing substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, and reentry-related challenges. I am a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP-DOT), which allows me to provide both clinical treatment and DOT-compliant evaluations.

I utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and relapse prevention strategies to support lasting change. I also integrate practical, real-life skill building to help clients navigate everyday challenges, improve decision-making, and maintain long-term recovery.

I have a strong focus on co-occurring disorders, recognizing the connection between mental health and substance use. My approach is structured, supportive, and accountability-driven, while still meeting clients with compassion and respect.

As the CEO of Eagles Wings Recovery, LLC and President of Step-By-Step With You, Inc. (a 501(c)(3) organization), I am committed to providing quality care across multiple levels of service, including counseling, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and recovery support.

My goal is to help you not only achieve sobriety or symptom relief—but to build a stable, fulfilling life with purpose, direction, and long-term success.

My approach to therapy

My Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is structured, supportive, and results-oriented, while still being grounded in compassion and respect. I believe that real change happens when clients feel both understood and challenged, so I work to create a space that is honest, nonjudgmental, and focused on growth.

I primarily use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and relapse prevention strategies. These methods help clients identify unhealthy thought patterns, build effective coping skills, and make meaningful behavioral changes that support long-term success.

I specialize in working with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and trauma. My approach emphasizes accountability, emotional regulation, and practical skill-buildinghelping clients not just talk about change, but actively live it out in their daily lives.

I also tailor treatment to each individual. Some clients need structure and direct guidance, while others benefit from a more reflective and insight-based approach. I meet clients where they are, while steadily helping them move toward where they need to be.

Whether you’re working through addiction, mental health challenges, or life transitions, my goal is to help you gain clarity, build stability, and develop the tools needed to maintain lasting progress.

What you can expect from me

What to Expect in Your First Session

Your first session is focused on understanding your story, your needs, and your goals. I create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where you can speak openly and honestly without pressure.

During this session, we will complete a comprehensive assessment that explores your current concerns, mental health history, substance use (if applicable), and any life stressors or challenges you’re facing. This helps me gain a clear picture of where you are and what support will be most effective for you.

We will also begin identifying your goals for treatment—whether that’s maintaining sobriety, improving mental health, managing stress, or creating more stability in your life. Together, we will start building a plan that is structured, realistic, and tailored specifically to you.

You can expect a balance of listening and guidance. I will meet you with compassion, but I will also provide direction, feedback, and practical steps you can begin applying right away.

By the end of the session, you should leave with greater clarity about your situation, a sense of direction, and an understanding of how we will work together moving forward.
