Great to meet you!

James is a State-Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LADC-1) and the founder of Community Counseling Services, serving the Central Massachusetts area. A native of the Greater Boston area and graduate of North Quincy High School, James earned his B.A. from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, and later completed a Master of Science Degree in Human Services from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2018.

With a seventeen-year career in accounting and finance, James also pursued his early love of theatre before discovering his true calling as a community activist for justice and healing in 1993. He went on to launch several community-based organizations, including Greater Love Outreach NYC and GayLab, Inc. in Boston, both dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized populations.

As an active and sober participant in the Recovery Community for many years, James brings a unique blend of personal experience, professional expertise, and academic preparation to the field of substance use disorder treatment. Today, he continues to advance his lifelong commitment to service by building Community Counseling Services into a vital resource for individuals and families seeking healing, recovery, and empowerment.

My approach to therapy

My approach is not "What's wrong" with you?", but rather "What happened to you?" I help you address drug/alcohol dependency, co-occurring/mental health and other factors (societal, identity issues, beliefs) with effective navigation of treatment options, identifying underlying problems, achieve desired outcomes and better quality of life within the first 60 days.

What you can expect from me

First, we address emergency needs. Second, we do a deep dive into what brought you to self-medicating in the first place. It's not about what's wrong with you. It's about what happened to you that you felt like drugs and alcohol were the only answer to your problems.
