Dr. James Fuqua

I am a medical doctor board-certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I am a Texas native and completed my undergraduate education at The University of Texas at Austin, followed by medical school and psychiatry residency training at UT Health Science Center San Antonio.

I work primarily with adults and have experience treating conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and related mood and anxiety conditions. I was drawn to psychiatry by a longstanding interest in human behavior and by the meaningful, long-term work involved in helping patients improve their quality of life.

My approach emphasizes safe, effective, and evidence-based psychiatric treatment within a stable and reliable therapeutic relationship. I focus on careful assessment, accurate diagnosis, and thoughtful medication management when indicated.

I aim to provide clear guidance and insight while working collaboratively with patients to develop treatment plans that align with their goals and values. I prioritize continuity of care and believe that taking the time to understand each patient’s history and experience is essential to effective treatment.

The initial session is focused on developing a thorough understanding of your concerns, symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, and prior treatments. I typically ask detailed questions to ensure a complete clinical picture and to guide treatment decisions.

By the end of the visit, we will review diagnostic impressions and discuss appropriate next steps, which may include medication options, non-medication strategies, and a plan for follow-up. My goal is for patients to leave the first session feeling informed, heard, and clear about the treatment plan moving forward.
