Great to meet you!

My name is James Gallanos and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Alaska, Oregon and Colorado. I have over 20 years of experience in a variety of community and clinical settings working with adults, children, Veterans and families. I am originally from Los Angeles, California, attended the University of Utah and obtained a Masters in Social Work from the University of Alaska in 2003.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I like to explore and invite curiosity in addressing common mental health issues and challenges we face. Seeking out your inner strengths, assets, values and wisdom is part of the counseling journey. I have specialization in suicide prevention, mindfulness practices and trauma informed care. My primary mode of treatment uses Acceptance Commitment Therapy as emerging interest and application of Internal Family Systems.

What you can expect from our first session

My goal is to help and assist you to connect with your true or authentic self that embodies values of empathy, compassion, connection, meaning and purpose. For that to occur, we often work on healing the parts of you that may be carrying the wounds of past trauma that are often held in our bodies or memories that cloud our thoughts, feelings and emotions. This leads to trusting ourselves with our emotions, experiencing them fully, and choosing to live the best version of ourselves.
