Great to meet you!

James McAllister (He/Him) is a dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Graduate of Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service. James possesses a prolific background in the field of social work. His experience includes working to secure housing for marginalized New Yorkers who are HIV-positive; he has also practiced clinically in both hospital and private practice settings.

James has had the privilege of working with a diverse and inclusive clientele. His practice includes individuals from various backgrounds, such as LGBTQ and straight individuals, African-American, East Asian, South Asian, Latin-American, and white clients. This diversity reflects his cultural competence and his commitment to providing inclusive care.

James’ extensive experience, personalized approach, and commitment to community well-being make him a trusted and compassionate practitioner in the field of social work. His dedication to understanding and addressing the unique needs of his clients sets a high standard for mental health professionals.

A bit about my approach to therapy

James employs a patient-centered and adaptable approach to therapy; he firmly believes that there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to mental health. Instead, he collaborates closely with his clients to understand their specific challenges and goals, ensuring that the therapy is a personalized and effective experience.

His collection of therapeutic modalities includes Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Somatic Therapy.

What you can expect from our first session

When working with James, you and he will work to identify patterns in your life that you might not have noticed but may have a big impact on how your life unfolds. You will take apart the stories of your life to make sure that you are writing your story instead of your story writing you. You can rediscover the stability and peace of mind you may have thought you lost.

James will always tell you the truth but always with compassion and respect. Working together can help you feel better about yourself, feel comfortable in your own skin, and truly feel worthy of who you really are.
