Great to meet you!

I’m James Rounds, a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner based in California, providing mental health care for adults ages 18–65. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and trauma, with a particular focus on serving the LGBTQIA+ community.

My approach is holistic, affirming, and individualized. I provide medication management and individual therapy, incorporating motivational interviewing to help clients better understand their symptoms, explore ambivalence, and make meaningful changes. I strive to create a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported.

I am also passionate about working with first responders, military veterans, and neurodivergent individuals. With 15 years of combined experience in psychiatry and critical care, along with my academic training from Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, I bring a thoughtful, grounded, and patient-centered approach to mental health treatment.

My approach to therapy

My style is collaborative, affirming, and individualized. I work with clients by creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where they feel heard, respected, and supported. I believe effective mental health care should address both symptoms and the underlying factors that may contribute to distress.

I provide medication management and individual therapy, often incorporating motivational interviewing to help clients explore ambivalence, clarify their goals, and move toward meaningful change. My approach is holistic and patient-centered, with an emphasis on resilience, healing, and personal growth.

I specialize in working with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and trauma. I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals, first responders, military veterans, and neurodivergent adults.

What you can expect from me

I aim to help clients feel more stable, supported, and empowered in their mental health care. Goals often include reducing distressing symptoms, improving daily functioning, strengthening coping skills, increasing self-understanding, and building resilience over time. I also work with clients to clarify their personal goals and identify realistic steps toward meaningful change.

I strive to create a safe, affirming, and collaborative environment where clients feel heard, respected, and not judged. My hope is that each client feels comfortable being their full self in treatment, while receiving care that is thoughtful, individualized, and aligned with their needs and values.
