Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Jim Thompson and I have 6+ years of experience work with adults moving through life's transitions. Whether a career change, a shift in an important relationship, a season where the old ways of doing things just don't fit or work anymore - life has a way of bringing us to crossroads.

I help people navigate those changes, along with the bigger questions about meaning and direction that tend to come with them. My style is warm, thoughtful, and unhurried. I'll meet you where you are. If you're looking for a steady presence while you sort out what's next, I'd be glad to walk alongside you.

My approach to therapy

My approach starts with you. I work from a person-centered foundation, which means I trust that you're the expert on your own life — my role is to offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you can think out loud and feel genuinely heard. From there, I draw on whatever will actually help. That often includes practical tools from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for working with the thought patterns and habits that keep you feeling stuck, alongside room to explore the bigger, more existential questions — purpose, meaning, and what you want your life to be about. When it's welcome, I also weave in contemplative elements like reflection, presence, and stillness, for clients who want to tend to the inner and spiritual dimensions of their lives. Above all, I try to meet you where you are and move at a pace that feels right for you.

What you can expect from me

The first session is really just a chance to get to know each other — there's no pressure to have everything figured out or to tell your whole story at once. Mostly, I want to understand what's bringing you in: the transition or challenge you're facing, and how it's actually affecting your day-to-day life, your relationships, and how you're feeling. From there, we'll start to sketch out where you'd like to go — what would feel like progress, and what a good outcome would look like for you. You can expect a warm, unhurried space where you set the pace and nothing is off the table. My hope is that you leave the first session feeling a little more understood, and with a sense that we can work well together.
