Jamie Abbitt

I was born in, and spent much of my childhood in South America. In addition to speaking Spanish, this experience cultivated an appreciation for connecting with individuals from all different backgrounds. This carried on into adulthood, living in major U.S. cities such as Chicago, Denver and Phoenix. Living in so many different places and meeting people from all walks of life has confirmed: we all want to be known and understood, empathy will guide our connection. After receiving a Pre-Counseling degree from Moody Bible Institute, I went on to get a Masters In Social Work at Arizona State University. A residency program at a local community mental health agency in Phoenix, AZ gave me much of the training I needed to provide quality care. I have worked with a variety of presenting issues including: Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Mood Disorders and Personality Disorders.

You and I will decide together your goals for therapy. I have found that curiosity and empathy can help clients gain understanding of themselves, past experiences and relationships in order to identify the focus of therapy.

I draw from a variety of modalities such as: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

During our first session we will complete an assessment where I gather some background information and start to get an understanding of who you are and what lead you to reach out for help. From there we will set goals according to where you want to see changes.
