Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Jamie Plaxco, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a passion for helping individuals find healing and balance in their mental health journey. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University, graduating summa cum laude, and have dedicated my career to providing compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care.

My areas of expertise include treating OCD, eating disorders, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorders. This breadth of experience has taught me to meet people where they are and tailor treatment to their unique needs.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with individuals facing serious mental illness, those in crisis situations, and people seeking preventive care and wellness optimization. My training at UCLA's Department of Neurology and Riverside County Department of Mental Health provided me with a strong foundation in both the neurological and psychological aspects of mental health. I understand that mental health challenges often have complex origins, and I explore all aspects of your wellbeing.

I believe in treating the whole person, not just symptoms, and I value building therapeutic relationships with my clients. I work with clients across the lifespan and take pride in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where we can collaborate on your path to wellness. My approach combines traditional psychiatric medication management with innovative, integrative treatments. Whether you're struggling with a long-standing condition, navigating a difficult transition, or facing new challenges, I'm here to support you with expertise, empathy, and evidence-based solutions. I stay current with the latest research and treatment modalities to provide you with the highest quality care. My practice is grounded in mutual respect and shared decision-making, ensuring your voice remains central throughout treatment. Together, we'll work toward lasting wellness.

My approach to therapy

Mental health treatment is both rigorous science and thoughtful art. The science involves keeping current with psychiatric research, utilizing evidence-based approaches, and maintaining clinical precision in assessment and medication management. The art requires building authentic connection, understanding your story, and tailoring care to your unique circumstances and values. I always attend to the whole person, not just the symptoms on the surface. True partnership means you bring the wisdom of lived experience while I offer professional insight.

Mental wellness is influenced by numerous factors—physical health, sleep, relationships, career, and environment—and we will look at your full context, never isolated concerns in a vacuum. Cultural humility keeps me aware of my own perspective while remaining genuinely committed to honoring your background, identity, and beliefs. I am realistic and transparent about what treatment can reasonably achieve. Mental health challenges carry no instant solutions, but with consistent effort, dependable support, and carefully selected interventions, meaningful progress is entirely within reach. I will communicate openly about expectations, medication effects, and the commitment recovery demands. Recognizing gradual improvements and practicing self-compassion during difficult stretches are essential parts of this process.

Recovery does not travel a straight line, and setbacks do not represent failure—they are a natural element of the journey. My role is to offer steady, compassionate guidance through both progress and hardship, helping you build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and advance toward a life where mental health challenges neither define you nor limit what is possible.

My deepest commitment is to your growth, your confidence, and your awareness of your own inherent worth. You deserve nothing less than that. You deserve care that is every bit as dedicated to your future as you are.

What you can expect from me

Your first appointment will reflect mental health care at its fullest — both rigorous science and thoughtful craft. Drawing on evidence-informed evaluation, I will assess your situation with precision and care. From our very first exchange, I see you as a complete person, not a set of symptoms. We will explore your mental health history, current struggles, prior treatments, and the goals you are hoping to reach.

Three core principles shape everything we do together. Authentic collaboration means your lived experience and my clinical knowledge work in tandem. Holistic inquiry means we consider the full range of factors influencing your wellness — physical health, sleep, relationships, work, and life circumstances. Cultural respect means I remain aware of my own lens while holding genuine, unwavering commitment to honoring your identity, background, and values.

My clinical experience spans a wide range of presentations, and I bring that depth to every evaluation. I will be honest and grounded about what treatment can realistically offer. Mental health challenges do not resolve overnight, but with consistent effort, the right support, and well-matched approaches, meaningful progress is truly possible. I will speak openly about timelines, what medication may and may not do, and what sustained recovery asks of us both.

Setbacks along the way are not signs of failure — they are a natural, expected part of any healing journey. My role is to walk beside you through both progress and difficulty with steady, compassionate presence. I remain accessible between appointments so you never feel alone in your care.

My deepest goal is helping you cultivate resilience, develop stronger coping skills, and move toward a life where your mental health no longer limits you — while growing in self-awareness, confidence, and a felt sense of your own worth. That goal is the foundation of everything we will build together.
