Great to meet you!

I'm Jamila a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Colorado with more than 20 years of experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. My background spans community mental health, domestic violence advocacy, child welfare, and criminal justice so I've seen a wide range of what people carry, and I don't shy away from any of it.

I especially love working with Black/ African-American clients and women of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, veterans, emancipated youth, and families navigating court involvement, reunification, or high-conflict separation.

If you've felt like other therapists didn't quite get your world culturally, structurally, or just experientially that's exactly the kind of gap I'm here to close. I'm warm, direct, and occasionally funny. I believe healing happens in honest relationship not just technique and I bring my full self to this work.

My approach to therapy

My approach is strengths-based and collaborative, meaning I start with what you already have your resilience, your insight, your history of getting through hard things and we build from there. Depending on what you're working through, I draw from CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, ACT, MST, and Narrative Therapy. I'm not dogmatic about any single model what matters is what works for you. My sessions are practical. You'll leave with something you can actually use a reframe, a skill, a conversation to have, a way of seeing your situation differently. I balance accountability with compassion, and I'll celebrate your wins like they're my own.

What you can expect from me

The first session is a conversation, not an intake form. We'll talk about what brought you in, what you've already tried, what matters most to you, and what you're hoping therapy will actually do for your life. I'll share a little about how I work and give you space to ask anything. There's no pressure to have it all figured out many people come in not entirely sure what they need, and that's okay. We'll figure it out together. By the end of the first session, you'll have a clearer sense of what we're working toward and whether I'm the right fit. I want you to leave feeling like this was worth your time and if I'm not the right person, I'll tell you honestly and help you find someone who is.
