Great to meet you!

Carrying grief, anxiety, or the weight of a relationship that no longer feels steady can leave you feeling like you are just getting through the day rather than living it. I am Jan Struyde, a licensed clinical social worker who has spent more than a decade in clinical practice and over fifty years in human services. I work with adults, and seniors, including those navigating life's later chapters, who are ready to make sense of loss, old patterns, and the transitions that come with change. I believe healing happens in partnership, not prescription, and that most suffering eases once it is truly accepted rather than fought.

In our sessions, we slow down enough to notice the thoughts that have started to feel like facts, and gently test them. We make room for every part of you, even the ones that feel at odds with each other, and we build a clear, doable plan for what comes next. Many clients feel steadier and less alone in their own story within a few sessions.

You do not need to have it figured out before you reach out. Most people I work with arrive uncertain, and that is a fine place to start. What tends to last is not a quick fix but a shift in how you carry what you are going through. If any of this sounds like where you are, I would be glad to talk with you.

My approach to therapy

I draw on cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused therapy, along with narrative and internal family systems work. In session, that means we examine thoughts that have started to feel like facts, build concrete next steps, and make room for the different parts of you so the whole picture gets addressed, not just the loudest part.

I will explore with you your inner riches and resources., and I will work to promote your self-discovery and resilience through shared planning, collaborative conversation, practical exercises, empathy and validation, psycho-education, and ongoing assessment.

What you can expect from me

Building trust starts the moment we meet. In our first session, I'll meet you where you are emotionally, and we'll work through a thoughtful assessment together, not just to gather information, but to start understanding what matters most to you. We'll talk through your goals, answer your questions, and map out what the work ahead could look like. By the end, most clients tell me they feel truly heard, and hopeful that change is possible.
