Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Jana Shiffert, MSW, LCSW, a board‐certified psychotherapist with more than 20 years of clinical social work experience. I trained at Barry University and hold a Master’s in Addiction Counseling in addition to certification as a sex therapist.

I provide compassionate, evidence‐informed care for adults facing mood disorders, addiction and substance use concerns, bereavement and codependency, LGBTQ+ issues, life‐management challenges, and stress. My work blends practical skills with empathic exploration so clients gain tools they can use in daily life while also addressing deeper patterns.

If you’re seeking steady, nonjudgmental support to reduce distress and move toward meaningful change, I’m here to help you get started.

My approach to therapy

Helping others has always felt like my calling, but my path to therapy grew from specific experiences and values. Early in my social work training I saw how compassionate listening, practical skills, and steady support could shift someone’s life—turning isolation into connection and overwhelm into manageable steps. Those moments convinced me that therapy is both a science and a human art worth dedicating my career to.

I’m drawn to the work because I believe people are resilient and change is possible even when life feels stuck. Training in addiction counseling and sex therapy deepened my understanding of complex struggles and taught me concrete tools that make a real difference. Over two decades of practice, I’ve watched clients reclaim hope, build healthier relationships, and develop skills that carry into everyday life.

My approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and collaboration. I aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore painful patterns, practice new ways of coping, and move toward goals that matter to them. Ultimately, I became a therapist to walk alongside people during hard times and to help them find clearer, calmer, and more fulfilling ways of living.

What you can expect from me

Many clients are new to therapy and unsure what to expect. In our first session we’ll begin with brief introductions and a compassionate review of the concerns bringing you in, including relevant history and current stressors. We’ll discuss your goals, complete or review any pre-session assessments, and identify immediate priorities. By the end you’ll have a clear, collaborative treatment plan, initial coping strategies to try, and a sense of what follow-up sessions will focus on.
