Great to meet you!

Jana Wachsler, Psy.D. has well over 20 years of experience working with adolescents, adults and families. She received her bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University in psychology before attending Nova Southeastern University in South Florida. While at NSU, Dr. Jana (as she is known to her patients) earned a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling before completing her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. After leaving South Florida, Dr. Jana moved to the Chicago area and spent twelve months on Clinical Internship at the North Chicago VAMC, working with veterans and their families. Originally from Potsdam, NY, Dr. Jana found that she missed New York State, and moved her family to Rochester to complete a post-doctoral fellowship in adolescent and family therapy at the University of Rochester. Dr. Jana spent two years at KidsPeace in Romulus before transitioning into private practice. For the past twenty one years, Dr. Jana has worked with adolescents, adults, and families ages 12 and above. Her specialties include anxiety, depression, LGTBQ+ issues (including work with transgender adolescents), family therapy, parent-child conflicts, adolescent issues, nutrition and weight loss counseling, smoking cessation, PTSD, and more.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Jana approaches therapy with a warm but casual approach, using humor and banter to encourage her patients to be open and comfortable.

What you can expect from me

In general, goals for therapy are patient-directed and move forward at a pace mutually agreed upon by both Dr. Jana and the patient. Outcomes often include improvement in mood and daily functioning, increased goal-directed behavior, and reduction in symptoms of depression, anxiety, and negative behaviors.
