Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Janelle McCoy, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

I hold a Master of Social Work from Simmons College of Social Work in Boston, Massachusetts. I utilize a strength-based approach to therapy, encouraging clients to engage in self-exploration to better understand their mental health challenges. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and psychoeducation in my practice, and I am committed to helping clients work toward a life of well-being.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is rooted in a strong belief in the inherent strength and resilience of every individual. I aim to foster an environment of safety, trust, and collaboration, where clients feel empowered to explore their challenges and work toward meaningful change. Central to my therapeutic work is a strength-based perspective, which recognizes and builds on clients’ existing strengths and resources.

I integrate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which help clients develop effective coping skills and gain insight into their thought patterns and behaviors. Psychoeducation also plays a significant role in my approach, providing clients with the knowledge and tools to understand and manage their mental health more effectively.

What you can expect from me

At the first session, my primary goal is to meet the client where they are, ensuring that they feel heard, respected, and comfortable. I understand that beginning therapy can be a vulnerable experience, and I strive to create an atmosphere of trust and openness where rapport can be built. This initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, and for you to share your concerns, hopes, and any hesitations you might have about the therapy process.

Therapy is a journey, and I believe in helping clients understand the therapeutic process as a whole from the outset. We will discuss what to expect in our work together, and I will help you navigate the structure of therapy while gradually transitioning into the reasons you sought therapy in the first place. This collaborative approach allows us to develop a clear understanding of your goals and the steps we will take to achieve them. While each person’s journey is unique, my aim is to support you in feeling confident and empowered as we work together toward your mental health and personal growth
