Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Janet Crisp, MSW, LCSW, CSAT-C, a trauma-informed therapist and founder of NuYu Counseling Center.

I help individuals, parents, and families heal from pain that feels too heavy to carry alone. Whether that’s trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, abuse, relationship difficulties, sex addiction, or addiction.

I also support betrayed partners as they navigate the shock, anger, grief, loss of trust, and uncertainty that can follow betrayal.

In addition, I work with teens and adults who struggle with anger, emotional regulation, and/or unhealthy behavioral patterns.

My approach blends CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychoeducation with compassion and accountability.

You don’t need to have it all figured out — you just need to take the first step. I’ll meet you where you are and help you move toward healing, growth, and a New You. 🌱

My approach to therapy

My clients often describe me as warm, direct, solution oriented, and non-judgemental. I bring both professional expertise and real-life understanding to my sessions, creating a space that’s safe, supportive, and deeply human.

Together, we’ll work to untangle the experiences that have held you back, rebuild self-trust, and create meaningful change that lasts.

I bring both clinical expertise and real-life understanding to my work. My approach blends compassion with honesty. I’ll hold space for your pain, but I’ll also challenge you to take the steps needed to move forward.

Therapy with me isn’t about surface-level fixes; it’s about creating real, lasting change. We’ll work together to uncover what’s keeping you stuck and build a clear plan for healing and growth. You can expect empathy, structure, and a collaborative approach that helps you turn insight into action.

What you can expect from me

I know that taking the first step into therapy can feel both hopeful and nerve-wracking, and that’s completely normal.

You don’t have to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. Our first session is simply about getting to know you: your story, your challenges, and what you’d like to see change in your life.

We’ll begin with what feels most important to you. I’ll ask a few gentle questions about your background, daily life, and what kind of support feels meaningful right now. This conversation helps me understand what you’ve been carrying and what’s getting in the way of feeling like yourself again. There’s no rush. You set the pace, and I’ll meet you right where you are.

At the start, we’ll also go over important topics like confidentiality, boundaries, and your rights as a client. We’ll talk about session structure, scheduling, communication, and how therapy generally works so you know what to expect and can feel comfortable moving forward.

You can expect a calm, judgment-free space where honesty is welcomed and vulnerability is respected. My role is to listen carefully, help you feel understood, and begin shaping a sense of direction for our work together.

By the end of our first session, my hope is that you’ll leave with a sense of relief and clarity, knowing that you’ve taken the first real step toward healing and that you’re not walking it alone.
