Dr. Janice Gonzales

Hello!

I'm Dr. Janice Gonzales, a licensed psychologist practicing in Colorado. I have been in the mental health field for 15 years. I have experience working with both adults and adolescents in a variety of settings. Presently, I spend most of my time doing assessments for neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and ADHD but in the past have worked in residential settings, forensic, community, and other areas. I have experience with a number of theoretical approaches but my preference is solution-focused, interpersonally centered therapy and Positive Psychology but as with most things, what we do is based on you. I am also currently pursuing an additional degree to begin prescribing medications and in the future hope to be able to support my clients in this area if appropriate.

I tend to have a more direct approach to therapy that encourages you as the client to help make connections between your thoughts, feelings, choices, and outcomes. It is always my goal to help clients build insight into their own patterns and problem solve where patterns can be upheld or changed based on your personal goals. I am a big believer in skill building being a part of therapy and hope to serve as a source of support and guidance in your personal journey.

During the first session, I want to get to know you. This of course includes your personal and family history, medical conditions, etc. But more importantly, in the first session, I want to know what you hope to gain from therapy and what kind of support would best serve you.
