Great to meet you!

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Delaware State University in (2006) and my Master's Degree in Social Work with a certification in School Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in (2020). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and able to provide individual therapy services in Virginia.\

My passion remains in supporting individuals with life challenges affecting their ability to complete day to day tasks in either or multiple areas of physical, psychological or social functioning. My goal is to empower individuals and not enable. To help individuals learn from their experiences and not be defined by them. Most importantly, to support individuals in setting and reaching goals that are attainable and realistic.

My approach to therapy

I’m certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Together, we’ll identify and replace maladaptive responses with productive coping techniques.

The initial focus in therapy would be to identify patterns in schema (triggering event, immediate thought, core belief/emotion, behavior responses). Next, we'd work on restructuring cognitive processes impacting areas of functioning (physical, emotional, mental health). With the use and implementation of therapeutic interventions, your coping skills should improve and goals achieved. Lastly, we would revisit progress overtime and plan for possible discharge.

I offer you the opportunity to develop a therapeutic relationship and alliance with someone invested in your personal growth. Our working relationship will be grounded in empathy, ethics, communication and commitment to change.

What you can expect from me

During the first session not including the initial assessment, client and clinician will work together on..

  • Provide an overview of what to expect and inquire if the client is seeing or has ever seen a therapist (if new client)
  • Explain the duration of the session will last close to an hour.
  • Ask or inform the client of the use of a notebook to take notes or audio record.
  • Review session structure (mood check, assessment or rating scale, set agenda for what client what's to discuss, decompress, assign homework, summarize and feedback at end of session)
  • Inquire if the client understands session structure before beginning.
