Great to meet you!

I'm Jason Borrego, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and the founder of Let's Thrive Mental Health in Coral Gables. I came to psychiatry after years as a nurse anesthetist and ICU nurse, and I hold a Doctor of Nursing Practice and an MBA from the University of Miami. That background shaped how I practice: I'm comfortable with complex medical pictures, I pay close attention to how medications actually feel in your body, and I don't guess when we can measure.

I work with adults and with children and adolescents ages 6 and up. The areas I spend the most time in are depression that hasn't responded to the usual medications, anxiety and panic, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, PMDD, and insomnia. I also offer psychotherapy alongside medication management, so you don't have to split your care across two people unless you want to.

I see patients by video across Florida and I'm fluent in Spanish.

My approach to therapy

I think of our work as a partnership. You know your life better than I ever will, and I know the medicine. My job is to explain your options in plain language, tell you what I'd do if it were me or my family, and then respect the decision you make.

I measure what we're treating. Every patient completes brief symptom scales at the start and along the way, so we can see whether something is working instead of hoping it is. If a medication isn't earning its place, we change it. If the problem isn't really a medication problem, I'll say so.

I keep visits unhurried. You'll have time to actually talk, and you'll leave with a clear plan you understand.

What you can expect from me

Your first visit is about an hour, by video. Before we meet, you'll complete a short questionnaire through my secure portal so we can use our time together on what matters rather than on paperwork.

In the session I'll want to hear your story in your own words: what's going on now, what's been tried before, what has and hasn't helped. We'll talk about your medical history, sleep, substances, and anything else that affects how you're feeling. I'll ask about safety, because I ask everyone.

By the end you'll have a working diagnosis, a plan we built together, and a clear sense of what happens next. If a prescription is part of the plan, it's sent before we hang up. If I think you'd be better served by someone else, I'll tell you and help you get there.
