My approach to providing care as a psychiatric nurse practitioner is patient-centered, evidence-based, and holistic. Mental health treatment works best when people feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care—not just managed.

• Comprehensive Assessment (Intake): The initial session is primarily an assessment to gather information on your symptoms, mental health history, personal history, and family history to form a diagnosis.
• Discussion of Current Concerns: You will discuss what brought you to seek care, your treatment goals, and current stressors.
• Medical and Medication History: The PMHNP will review your physical health, past medications, and any current medications (including doses) to understand the full picture.
• Collaborative Care Plan: Together, you will start building a treatment plan, which may involve, but is not limited to, medication, referrals for therapy, or lifestyle changes.
• A "Whole Person" Approach: PMHNPs often focus on holistic care, looking at how physical, emotional, and social factors affect your mental health.
• Opportunity for Questions: You will have time to ask questions about the diagnosis, proposed treatments, and the process.
