Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Jeannie Umanzor, and I am a DNP prepared Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Prctitioner (PMHNP-BC) with 8 years of experience in the field. For the past 8 years, I have been dedicated to working in a federally qualified health clinic serving the unhoused population. I have encountered some of the most complex illnesses, addictions and mentally ill patients. In my role, I have had the privilege of seeing a wide variety of diseases and mental health disorders. My passion for mental health is unwavering, and I firmly believe in a whole person, patient-centered approach to care. This approach allows me to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to all of my patients, ensuring that their physical and mental well-being are prioritized. My experience in working with diverse populations has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to address the unique needs of each individual I encounter. I am committed to continually expanding my expertise and staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the field in order to provide the highest quality care possible.

My approach to therapy

With 8 years of experience in handling a wide range of mental and addiction disorders, I approach treatment through a combination of Western methods and holistic approaches. I believe in treating the whole person rather than just focusing on symptoms, ensuring a comprehensive and personalized approach to each individual's needs.

I treat adolescent and adults who may be struggling with various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, postpartum depression, addiction, mood disorders, weight issues, or psychotic disorders. These individuals are seeking a provider who adopts a patient-centered approach and a holistic perspective towards addressing their mental health and overall well-being. They want to work with someone who genuinely cares about their unique needs, goals, and experiences. This ideal client values a therapist who views them as a whole person, instead of just focusing on their symptoms or diagnoses.

What you can expect from me

During a patient's first mental health appointment, our primary focus is on understanding each individual's unique needs and circumstances. We start by discussing their goals for seeking therapy and getting to know them on a personal level. By delving into their struggles in daily life, we can identify potential triggers and develop an effective treatment plan. It's essential to learn who their support system consists of because having a strong network can greatly impact their mental wellness. We also review past treatments to determine what has worked and what hasn't, adjusting our approach accordingly. It's crucial to ensure the patient feels comfortable and informed throughout the process, assuring them that we will proceed at their pace to facilitate a trusting therapeutic relationship.
