Great to meet you!

I specialize in traumatic grief, religious trauma, and anxiety, not because I studied them in a textbook, but because I've lived them. When my children passed away, I didn't just lose them; I lost my identity, my conservative Christian faith, and my understanding of the world. The grief was crushing, and my church community offered well-meaning platitudes that felt hollow. I faced a spiritual crisis that was as devastating as the loss itself.

My own healing led me through a chronic and persistent existential anxiety, which gave me perspectives and tools that traditional approaches alone couldn't provide. That transformation changed everything. I've been a licensed professional counselor in Texas for over 25 years and a counselor supervisor for more than 10 years.

I work with the bereaved carrying the weight of loss, ex-evangelicals navigating guilt and anger after leaving their faith communities, and individuals trying to make sense of profound traumatic experiences. If you've felt like other therapists don't truly "get it," that's because these wounds need someone who has walked the same path.

My approach to therapy

My approach is built on the understanding that some wounds can't be healed by someone who has only read about them. I integrate narrative therapy, existential therapy, and cognitive-behavioral approaches, but my most valuable tool is lived experience. I know what it's like to carry grief that rewrites your entire identity, to leave a faith tradition that no longer fits, and to integrate experiences that are difficult to put into words.

I don't believe in "fixing" you because you're not broken. Instead, we work together to help you carry your losses with grace, rebuild an authentic sense of self, and find meaning in experiences that have changed you. For existential anxieties specifically, I help you ground profound insights into your daily life, making sense of what you've encountered and weaving it into your ongoing healing.

My therapeutic space is one where you don't have to explain why your grief still feels overwhelming years later, or why you can't just "go back to church," or why traumas left you feeling both transformed and confused. I understand because I've sat exactly where you're sitting.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, expect honesty. I'll share parts of my own story and background, not to center myself but so you know you're working with someone who truly understands. We'll talk about what brought you here, Whether it's the loss of someone irreplaceable, the crisis of leaving your faith, or trying to integrate a profound experience that changed how you see the world.

I won't offer you platitudes or quick fixes. Instead, we'll start mapping out what healing actually looks like for you. It's not "getting over it" or "moving on," but learning to live with what you carry. You'll leave with a clearer sense of whether we're a good fit and, hopefully, with the relief that comes from being truly understood.

My goal for that first session is simple. I want you to feel like you can finally stop explaining yourself. You can bring your whole story: the pain, the anger, the confusion, the hope and know that I get it.
