Great to meet you!

I came to be a therapist after entering my own therapy as a 26 year old attorney still finding my way in terms of creating a career and life path that matched who I was as a person. That led me to eventually obtain a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and then a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I have loved being a therapist since day one. I work with adolescents and adults including older adults on a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, grief and relationship problems. As a lawyer I also have experience helping people involved in difficult interactions with the legal system such as divorce, child custody disputes and criminal matters. I am also a cancer and bone marrow transplant survivor and, as such, understand what it is like to face a life threatening medical condition.

My approach to therapy

Psychotherapy is a collaborative endeavor, the purpose of which is to reduce suffering and develop a more empowered understanding of ourselves and others. As such, I want to get to know my patients. Not just their symptoms, but who they are. Their history, the challenges they've faced in the course of their lives, their relationships, their fears, strengths, weaknesses, aspirations, likes and dislikes. Often, the problems we encounter in life result from longstanding patterns of emotions, behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs we have formed, often unconsciously and early in life, about ourselves, others and the world around us. These can be examined and, when needed, modified in positive ways through therapy. This frequently leads to greater happiness and an increased ability to deal with life's challenges.

Both my personal experience and the scholarly literature on therapeutic outcomes point to the quality of the therapeutic relationship as being a primary factor in fostering positive change. I have a warm interpersonal style, am very open-minded and am able to interact positively with individuals who come from very different backgrounds and hold different views than my own. Most of the time, I genuinely come to like the people I work with as I get to know them, which I consider to be one of the great joys of being a therapist. I want sessions to be a space where people can express and explore areas of woundedness, pain and vulnerability without fear of being judged.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, after a brief explanation of the confidential nature of the therapeutic relationship, I will ask what brings you to therapy and learn more about your experiences and goals. We will begin identifying ways I can support you. You will always be able to ask questions and share in your own way.
