Great to meet you!

My therapeutic style is structured, empathetic, and collaborative, guiding clients through a series of sessions that help them identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs related to their trauma or clinical issues. I use evidence-based techniques to help clients reframe distorted thoughts, reduce avoidance behaviors, and regain a sense of control and safety. I am skilled in creating a supportive environment where clients feel safe to explore painful memories and develop healthier ways of thinking and coping.

My approach to therapy

I specialize in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), an evidence-based approach designed to support those who are struggling. My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and structured, providing a safe space for clients to explore their experiences, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and build healthier ways of thinking. With a background in trauma-informed care and over 20 years of clinical experience, I work closely with each client to foster resilience, self-compassion, and lasting change. Whether you're navigating the aftermath of a single traumatic event or complex trauma, I’m here to support your journey toward healing and empowerment.

What you can expect from me

In the first session of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), you can expect a structured yet supportive introduction to the therapeutic process. Here's what typically happens:

  1. Introduction and rapport-building: I will begin by getting to know you, discussing your background, and creating a safe, respectful space for open communication.
  2. Overview of CPT: You'll receive a clear explanation of what CPT is, how it works, and what to expect from the treatment. I will describe how trauma can affect thoughts and beliefs, and how CPT helps address those changes.
  3. Discussion of trauma and symptoms: While you won’t be expected to go into full detail about your trauma right away, I may ask about the nature of the trauma and your current symptoms to better understand your needs.
  4. Setting goals: Together, we will identify goals for therapy—what you hope to achieve and how success will be measured.
  5. Introduction to “stuck points”: I may introduce the concept of “stuck points”—unhelpful thoughts that keep you feeling stuck in your recovery—and explain how these will be explored in future sessions.
  6. Homework assignment: CPT often includes between-session work. In the first session, you might be asked to write an impact statement—a brief reflection on how the trauma has affected your beliefs about yourself, others, and the world.

The tone of the session is typically collaborative and educational, you should feel informed and empowered as you begin the healing process.
