Great to meet you!

Hello and welcome! I'm Dr. Jennifer Cain, a clinical psychologist specializing in trauma and related challenges including but not limited to anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief and loss, stress, and parenting issues. I work with people across a wide age range, from children to adults, and I understand how life's difficulties can feel overwhelming sometimes. I enjoy working with people to help them get back to feeling like themselves again.

Before becoming a psychologist, I worked with children, teens, and adults in a number of different settings. Together, these experiences have given me a solid grasp of what people need in order to be healthy and happy, and what needs to happen to get there. I graduated with my doctorate in 2011 and am licensed in New York and Ohio. I also hold Diplomate status with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.

If you've had therapy before and found yourself talking about issues and getting nowhere, please contact me. I have gotten very positive feedback from people who previously had bad experiences with other therapists. My style is direct, warm, and creative. I function as your guide, combining evidence-based approaches in a way that is tailored to your unique needs and personality, and done in a way that feels natural.

My approach to therapy

Throughout the years I have taken additional trainings on trauma treatment methods, including trauma-focused CBT, EMDR, breathing techniques, and somatic approaches, and have developed ways of integrating and tailoring various treatment methods. I have written articles and developed trainings on trauma and attachment, as well.

In therapy, I provide you with a warm, supportive, safe space to process through what is troubling you and find relief. In our sessions, you will find compassion, receive help honing in on the core issues, build new skills, and develop more adaptive patterns in your life. If you are fearful about opening up and sharing, know that we will take things at a pace that is comfortable for you.

I understand that traumatized people live not only with the memories of what happened to them, but also with recurring symptoms that can be activated suddenly and without warning. Whether you're dealing with trauma, anxiety, parenting challenges, grief, or simply feeling stuck, we'll work together to address not just the symptoms but the deeper patterns that keep you from living the life you want.

What you can expect from me

Our first session together begins the process of helping you feel comfortable and accepted. I will ask you questions to get to know you better so I can understand what you need and identify the methods that will help you the most. You can let me know what you want to accomplish in therapy, and we will begin the process of setting goals together. You can also ask me any questions you have about therapy and tell me your concerns.

My goal is for you to leave our first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about the path forward.
