Great to meet you!

I am Jennifer Hayden, a licensed professional counselor, licensed addiction counselor and certified gambling counselor. My preferred pronouns are she and her. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver in 2002. Working in rural areas, before telehealth, required much additional training as there were often not other providers to refer to. This resulted in additional licenses and certifications. I work through telehealth only, Monday - Friday 8 am - 4 pm.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy varies. I am trained in many treatment modalities, preferred methods are EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, and CBT. People often need some space in the first session to explain themselves in a way that feels comfortable. As the session progresses, I check in on various areas of the person’s life, but in a way that feels natural. Assessment is important because treatment modalities vary depending on what is driving the behavior. All areas of a person’s life are relevant.

What you can expect from me

After a session, clients will have a takeaway skill to practice much like a Physical Therapy appointment. Clients will hopefully feel centered and balanced. Although the things we talk about and work on can be intense, I check in with clients towards the end of session about how they are feeling. I often teach a coping skill or practice one to make sure they feel grounded when our time together comes to an end for the day. Many people report having a new perspective after our conversations.
