Great to meet you!

I specialize in working with young adults and adult women facing challenges such as anxiety, low self-esteem, perfectionism, depression, grief, and life transitions—including those related to motherhood, parenting, and midlife (such as menopause). I also enjoy supporting college students as they navigate academic and social pressures.

My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Mindfulness to help clients break unhelpful patterns, connect with their inner strengths, and make meaningful changes. I take a collaborative approach and often incorporate relevant articles and books into our work together.

I have a strong interest and advanced training in maternal mental health. I provide specialized support for women experiencing perinatal or postpartum anxiety and depression, as well as those adjusting to the complexities of motherhood. My research on this topic was published in The Journal of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health in 2015.

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and, prior to pursuing counseling, worked as a journalist in New York City. I earned a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Eastern Mennonite University in 2014. I currently live in the city of Charlottesville with my husband and two children.

My approach to therapy

Research consistently shows that the relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of positive therapy outcomes. With that in mind, I prioritize building a genuine connection based on trust, empathy, and mutual respect. I bring warmth, humor, and active, compassionate listening into our work together, creating a calming and supportive space where clients can feel truly seen and heard. My goal is for therapy to be more than just a place to talk—it's a space for self-discovery, meaningful growth, and often, a new and healing way of experiencing yourself in relationship with others.

What you can expect from me

Our time together in therapy is meaningful, and each session is shaped by what feels most relevant and important to you in the moment. While I’ll gently revisit past topics or patterns when it’s helpful, I follow your lead, honoring the pace and direction that feels right. I’m an active, engaged listener—curious, thoughtful, and not afraid to ask questions that encourage deeper reflection or offer a fresh perspective. Growth often requires challenge, and I’m here to walk alongside you through that process, helping you make the changes needed to build a more joyful, authentic, and fulfilling life.
