Jennifer Shook

I’m licensed in Iowa and Florida and specialize in working with children and teens ages 6–18. I offer in-person therapy in Burlington, Iowa, and telehealth in both states. I’ve spent most of my career working with children and teens in therapeutic and school settings. I help with anxiety, ADHD, overwhelming emotions, school stress, and changes that feel hard to manage. I know reaching out for help isn’t always easy. I create a space where children and teens can be themselves, feel heard, and work through what’s going on at their own pace.

I keep things real and flexible. I meet children and teens where they are, not where they “should” be. Some sessions focus on building skills. Other times, they need space to feel understood before they’re ready to work on anything else.

I don’t expect children and teens to open up right away. Trust takes time. I stay connected with parents so you feel supported, while still giving your child space to talk and build a relationship with me at their own pace.

The first session is just a starting point. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, what concerns you have, and what you hope therapy can help with.

I’ll also spend time helping your child feel comfortable. They don’t have to open up or talk much right away. We’ll take the time to get to know each other and go from there.
