Great to meet you!

For many people, the decision to come into counseling — or to bring a child into counseling — is a big step. My goal is to make that easier by building a genuine therapeutic relationship and equipping you with tools to get through these seasons of your life. I've been in private practice for the past 14 years, with 20 years in the field overall.

My background includes extensive work with women on codependency, depression, anxiety, and abuse, plus ten years working with school-age children in the public schools. I especially enjoy working with women and adolescents. Common issues we address together include codependency, parenting, depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief, life transitions, and abuse and neglect. Whatever brought you here, you won't be working through it alone.

My approach to therapy

My approach is person-centered, because I don't believe there's a one-size-fits-all way to do this work. People arrive in therapy at very different stages of their journey, and where you're starting shapes where we begin.

From there, I draw on what actually fits your situation — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, behavioral approaches, the Gottman Method when couples work is part of the picture, and Child-Parent Psychotherapy when I'm helping a parent and child strengthen their relationship. I'll ask a lot of questions, I'll challenge you kindly, and I'm not above using humor when it helps. Mostly, we'll go at your pace and focus on what you most want to change.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know each other. I'll explain how I work and what you can expect from therapy with me, then spend most of our time learning about you — what brought you in, what's been hardest, and what you're hoping will be different.

Together we'll start shaping your goals and a plan for how we'll get there. There's no pressure to have it all figured out before you walk in, and no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. My hope is that you leave that first conversation feeling a little lighter and more hopeful than when you arrived.
