Great to meet you!

Hello. My name is Jessica Maupin and I am a licensed professional counselor with 19 years of licensed experience. I received my master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Texas–San Antonio. I completed my clinical internship hours at the Cyndi Taylor Krier Correctional Treatment Facility, with particular focus and training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, and Systems Therapy.

In 2005 I was hired by Juvenile Probation to work full-time. I served in this role for four years, delivering individual, group, and family counseling to juveniles court-ordered into placement. In 2009, I accepted a newly created position with the Clinical Team as an Enrichment Coordinator. In this role, I created and developed experiential therapy opportunities for children in placement and in the community. These opportunities included some of the following: ROPES Challenge Climbing Course, animal therapy, equine therapy, poetry, theatre, gardening, recreational sports, and developing structured use of free time for clients.

Though I continue to work with Bexar County Juvenile Probation, over the last 5 years I have been seeing clients virtually. This has been an exciting growth spurt for me. I have recently started with Headways and I’m looking forward to this new endeavor. I have seen clients from 16-60 though I do believe my “sweet spot” is young adults.

My approach to therapy

I believe that my clients have the best solutions for themselves and I am merely here to help them find those solutions. I am a very open-minded person and truly marvel at the uniqueness of each and every person. I specialize in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Behavioral Interventions, Trauma focused care and experiential therapy.

What you can expect from me

In the first session I generally look forward to getting know you and why you came to counseling. If able I like to do a brief psychosocial history, though that might take more than just the first session! I think the first session is best for you to see if I am someone you feel safe doing therapy with, which I find to be one of the most important features of a good counseling relationship.
