Great to meet you!

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Alone? Misunderstood? Do you feel emotionally out of control? Would you like to create a life that is not so messy? Do you just want to feel heard and validated? The painful issues we experience in our lives, when faced without emotional support or someone to simply acknowledge this pain, will rob us of our joy. I want to be the person that helps you navigate through your difficulties, so that you can learn to manage emotions in healthy ways, take control of your life, and rewrite your life narrative without the mess. I will listen without judgment, be fully present in the moments we spend together, and work collaboratively with you on finding solutions. I believe that you are the expert on your life, and with my unconditional support, you will begin to improve your mental health, so that this story of your life is being written joyfully by YOU!

I am Jessica B. Muniz, a licensed clinical social worker with clinical supervision credentialing, in the state of Texas. I have done clinical work within university counseling centers and also in mental health facilities to include inpatient and outpatient therapy, throughout my 15 plus years as a clinician. I have experience working with young adults, adolescents and couples. I am excited to begin our work together!

My approach to therapy

My approach to clinical work with clients is all about the process of building a positive therapeutic relationship. I aim to create a safe space for you to speak truth, share thoughts and emotions freely, describe behaviors openly and honestly, learn healthy coping skills and techniques, and engage in solutions that build upon your strengths. I believe the most important aspect of this work is in creating a trusting, mutually respectful relationship with each and every client. My therapeutic philosophy is based on trauma informed care principles in which safety and trustworthiness and empowerment and choice are emphasized. A safe and trusting therapeutic relationship impacts the entire process positively, as well as serves as a model for healthy relationship building with others in your life. When a client feels safe, accepted and heard, they become empowered through self acceptance and self love, acknowledging their worth and their strengths, finally believing that they are worthy of an emotionally healthy, joy filled life. It is then that we can work collaboratively to stop the self blame, stop the negative self talk, stop the self harming behaviors and thoughts, and especially identify and cease all self-sabotaging behaviors. You will know and understand your triggers, so that you can plan for effectively managing emotions, changing thoughts and introducing healthy behaviors so that you can deal with any situation you are faced with in your life, no matter how painful or unpredictably messy.

What you can expect from me

What you can expect to take away from each session with me, is what you choose to put into each session with me. In other words, I am going to engage openly and honestly with you, and yet, I will be direct with you too. You can expect to be educated on the process of therapy, informed about issues of concerns and working diagnosis, offered recommendations and referrals, as well as given choices about aspects of our work, if needed. I will not only focus on creating a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship, I will do my best to engage you in every step of this process. I do tend be direct and assertive because I want you to gain something out of every face to ace interaction we have together. I tend to focus on skill building and finding solutions so that you can make small changes to your situations every day. However, I will not hesitate to call you out on any type of avoidance in dealing with problematic situations, when I detect it. I will point out things that you might not want to address, I will challenge dysfunctional behavior patterns that you may not be ready to change and I will be honest with you about your role in emotionally dysfunctional relational patterns. I am trained in short term therapy telehealth, 30 minute time frames to build rapport, create the goal for the session, asses for risk and provide a new skill or technique for coping. I share this because my experience is in both traditional therapy services and current therapy services. I can adjust to meet your needs! I want to meet with you, if you are ready. We can schedule a brief consultation to determine if we are a good fit. Feel free to reach out to me so that we can take this first step! I look forward to hearing from you!
