Great to meet you!

Hey there! I'm Jess (she/her).

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over a decade of experience in mental health. I opened Beyond Boundaries Counseling RGV in 2017 to create a space where people can show up as their whole selves. Not just the polished, socially acceptable, "I've got my shit together" version. ALL of it.

Here's what I've learned about being human: we're complicated creatures. We can be kind and still get angry, confident and still feel insecure, love fiercely and still struggle in our relationships. We can be doing our best and still make a spectacular mess of things. Welcome to humanity!

I practice what I preach. I'm a queer woman with ADHD who loves animals, gaming, cooking, hiking, nature, and learning just about anything. I appreciate weirdness, meaningful conversations, humor, and questioning the status quo. I don't have life all figured out, and I don't expect you to either.

My approach blends science, clinical theory, humanism, social justice, and curiosity. I believe in evidence-based care, but people are far too complex to be reduced to a diagnosis or textbook definition.

I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, identity, intimacy, and relationship challenges. I'm LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex-positive, kink-aware, and welcoming of diverse relationships. Different doesn't mean dysfunctional.

I value vulnerability, humility, honesty, accountability, and humor. Growth can mean uncomfortable conversations, surprising realizations, or laughing at the absurdity of being alive. Often, it's all three.

Bring your questions, contradictions, frustrations, hopes, fears, and those parts you've been told are "too much" or "not enough."

There's room for the light and dark, the beautiful and messy, the serious and ridiculous.

You get to be a whole human here. No audition required.

My approach to therapy

I don't believe therapy should be someone nodding politely, asking "And how does that make you feel?" fifty times, and sending you home with a worksheet. Unless you love worksheets. No judgment!

My approach blends science, evidence-based practices, systems theory, humanism, and a healthy dose of curiosity. I'm trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming, collaborative, and genuinely interested in understanding your world, not just your symptoms.

I show up as my authentic, neurodivergent self. If I need a moment to process, I'll say, "Give me a sec, my brain is working on that." I value vulnerability, humility, humor, and genuine human connection. I don't pretend to have all the answers, and I won't expect you to either.

I know making time for yourself can be hard. Whether you're joining from your parked car, squeezing therapy into a lunch break, or curled up in bed in your pajamas, I'm just glad you showed up. No need to dress up, tidy your room, or perform wellness for me.

Sometimes we'll explore patterns, challenge beliefs, build skills, and have uncomfortable conversations. Sometimes we'll laugh at how ridiculous life can be. And sometimes things are just hard.

I'm not going to stand on the sidelines shouting positive affirmations while you're knee-deep in the mud. I'll sit in the mud with you. We can figure out what comes next together, when you're ready.

Therapy isn't about fixing you. It's about understanding yourself, embracing your humanity, and building a life that makes sense for YOU.

No perfection required. Not from you, and certainly not from me.

What you can expect from me

First things first: you don't need to prepare a speech, organize your entire life story, or figure out exactly what's "wrong" before we meet. This isn't a job interview, and there's definitely no pop quiz. 😂

Our first session is really about getting to know each other. I'll ask questions about what brought you here, what life has been like for you, what you're hoping to get out of therapy, and whatever else feels important. We'll talk about your experiences, relationships, challenges, strengths, and the things that make you, well, YOU.

We'll also go over the practical stuff, like confidentiality, boundaries, and what you can expect from our work together. I believe informed consent should actually be informed, so please ask questions, express concerns, or tell me if something doesn't make sense.

You get to decide how much you share and when. If something feels too personal, overwhelming, or you're just not ready to go there, that's okay. We can come back to it. You don't owe me your entire trauma history in the first hour.

I also want you to get a feel for me! Therapy is a relationship, and finding someone you genuinely feel comfortable with matters. You're allowed to decide whether I'm the right therapist for you. No awkward breakup speech required.

Some people cry in their first session. Some laugh, ramble, go completely blank, or say, "I have no idea where to start." All perfectly acceptable ways to be human.

My goal isn't to unpack your entire existence in one sitting. It's to begin understanding your world, answer your questions, and figure out together what might be helpful moving forward.

Come as you are. We'll start wherever you are. And we'll go from there.
