Hey there! I work with folks who:

  • Are going through big life transitions.
  • Feel stuck in self-criticism.
  • Have difficulty approaching strong or uncomfortable emotions.
  • Want a supportive space to process trauma.
  • Are looking to explore aspects of identity or understand yourself in a deeper way.

Our experiences shape us, and we are always evolving. Whatever the situation, I'd be honored to help you reconnect with a version of you that feels most authentic.

My background: I received my Master's of Counseling from Texas State University of San Marcos. Since 2017, I've worked in a variety of mental health settings but began my career specializing in trauma-focused therapy for children and teens. Throughout my career, I have also provided family therapy, play therapy, relationship counseling, and group therapy. Please

A bit about my approach to therapy

My approach: is down-to-earth and affirming through values of anti-oppressive, trauma-focused care. I gravitate most to narrative therapy with an existential and psychodynamic framework. My history of working with kids/teens provided a valuable foundation for how our past shapes the way we see others, ourselves, and the world. In our younger years, the stories of our childhood are written by the world around us. But in adulthood, we get to re-evaluate those messages and rewrite our inner narratives for the future in ways that feel more authentic.

You are the expert: I understand that Western approaches to mental health have caused great harm to traditionally marginalized communities and I have an ongoing commitment to decolonize my practice and my life. This means that I am not a "blank slate" and will never take the stance of the "expert" or give advice, but rather provide an exploratory space to help you access your own inner wisdom. Additionally, with the current state of the wold, I understand that much of the pain we feel are normal responses to harmful situations and won’t minimize those realities but help ground you through them.

My toolbox: When indicated, I can help you build skills related to managing anxiety and emotional processing using DBT and somatic/body-based techniques.

Other modalities: I greatly value the role of play and creative expression in therapy, regardless of age. Because of this, I like to incorporate creative tools such as dream work or metaphorical imagery cards at times when you feel this would be helpful.

What you can expect from our first session

Our first session is a time for us to start a conversation and learn more about what is bringing you in. I have no set agenda for our meetings, but here is a general overview of what you could expect:

  1. Usually, we'll first spend a few minutes going over the therapy process. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about me or my approach during this time or at any point during our work together. Note: I understand that there can be a sense of pressure to share everything right away at the first session. While I'm prepared for whatever you feel comfortable with, I also understand that trust is earned and it can take time to feel comfortable talking about certain topics.
  2. Hopefully, by the end of the hour, we'll have identified one or two goals to work on if you decide that you'd like to continue. This can serve as the roadmap for our time working together.
  3. Then we can take it a few sessions at a time to see how things feel for you. Therapy is not "one size fits all," so I greatly value and rely on your feedback in order to provide the most individualized care within the best of my ability.

Hope to see you soon!
