Great to meet you!

I'm Jill Furumoto, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Lexington, MA, with over 20 years of experience and five years in private practice. I work with adults, teens, and young adults — especially people dealing with anxiety, trauma, major life transitions, grief, and identity questions. I'm Asian-American, and I bring particular attunement to clients navigating cultural expectations, family dynamics, and the experience of holding two worlds at once. My style is warm and curious, but I don't shy away from the hard conversations. I work with what's actually happening in your life — not a version of it that's been made more palatable.

My approach to therapy

My approach is integrative and tailored to each person. I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), psychodynamic work, and Integrative Mental Health and Medicine — which means I pay attention to how your physical health, sleep, and nervous system are connected to what you're carrying emotionally. I don't follow a rigid protocol. I pay attention to what you bring into the room, and I use the methods that match where you actually are. Some sessions are about building concrete skills. Others go deeper. Usually both happen over time.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a real conversation — not an intake checklist. I'll ask what brought you in, what's been hard, and what you're hoping therapy will help you with. I want to understand your story in your own words, including what's worked before and what hasn't. By the end of our time, you'll have a sense of whether working together feels like the right fit, and we'll sketch out what the path forward might look like. There's no pressure to arrive with a clear problem statement. You don't have to have it figured out — that's the work we do together.
