Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Jimmie Spragans, LPC. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from South University, where I specialized in supporting individuals through various emotional and psychological challenges. Before earning my master's, I completed my undergraduate studies in Individualized Studies with a focus on psychology. Despite being licensed for just two years, I bring over 23 years of extensive experience in the mental health field. My expertise includes couples counseling, grief therapy, family therapy and planning, depression management, and self-esteem building. I am dedicated to providing compassionate, client-centered care to help individuals achieve their mental wellness goals.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy are as follows:

1. Active Listening: I attentively listen to clients without interrupting, demonstrating genuine interest and understanding of their concerns.

2. Empathy and Validation: I also consistently show empathy by validating clients' feelings and experiences, creating a safe space where they feel understood and accepted.

3. Transparency and Collaboration: I like to involve clients in developing treatment plans, explaining therapeutic processes clearly, and respecting their choices, which fosters a sense of partnership.

4. Confidentiality Assurance: I emphasize the importance of confidentiality from the outset, building trust through professional ethics and privacy safeguards.

5. Cultural Sensitivity: Recognizing diverse backgrounds, I adapt my approach to be culturally sensitive and respectful, ensuring clients feel seen and valued.

6. Creating a Safe Environment: My counseling space is warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental, helping clients to feel comfortable sharing personal thoughts and emotions.

7. Consistency and Reliability: I like to maintain regular appointments and follow through on commitments, establishing reliability and stability.

8. Encouraging Self-Exploration: I gently encourage clients to explore their feelings and behaviors, empowering them to take an active role in their healing process.

What you can expect from me

The first session will include the following:

1. Introduction and Building Rapport: I will introduce himself, explain my role as a counselor, and invite you to share a bit about yourself at your own pace.

2. Discussion of Goals and Expectations: I will typically ask about what brings you to therapy and discuss your hopes and goals for the counseling process.

3. Exploration of Background and Concerns: Expect gentle questions about personal history, current challenges, and any relevant experiences to better understand your situation.

4. Confidentiality Explanation: I will clearly explain confidentiality policies, privacy safeguards, and any limits to confidentiality to ensure trust and transparency.

5. Development of a Collaborative Plan: Together, you and I will outline potential next steps and decide on a plan tailored to your needs and comfort level.

6. Answering Questions: I encourage you to ask questions about counseling, approaches used, or anything else on your mind.

7. Setting the Tone for Future Sessions: The first session helps establish a trusting relationship and sets the foundation for ongoing work together.
